Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) is the nominating body that works for the Queensland government to invite skilled professionals who wish to live and work in the  state. The Queensland Skilled Occupation Lists (QSOL) address the current labour demand of the State.

To get a nomination from the state of Queensland, a candidate must meet the requirements of Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) also the criteria
of Business and Skilled Migration Queensland (BSMQ) under any chosen visa category.

The State Nomination Program of Queensland accepts applications under the following immigration streams:

1. Offshore (subclass 190 & subclass 489)

As the name suggests, this stream offers a pathway to the overseas skilled workers with a demand occupation to migrate to Australia through a state nomination from Queensland.

To become eligible for this stream,

  • The candidate must be in the current QSOL (offshore) list.
  • Meet all the criteria of DHA (Department of Home Affairs).
  • Show the evidence of post-qualification work experience (minimum of two years) in the nominated occupation.
  • He/she must commit to staying in Queensland permanently from the date of arrival.
  • A few occupations like cook or chef needs to show a 12-month employment offer from an Australian employer.

The offshore stream issues nominations to candidates under the following visa categories:

  • Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190)
  • Skilled Regional visa (Subclass 489)

2. Onshore Stream

The Onshore stream is designed for the people who are already working in Queensland to apply an Australian PR (Permanent Residency).

To become eligible for this stream,

  • The candidate must be in the current QSOL (Working in Queensland) demand list that reflects the skill shortage of Queensland.
  • Meet all the criteria of DHA (Department of Home Affairs).
  • Show the evidence of full-time employment in the nominated occupation (minimum of six months).
  • Provide the evidence of an ongoing employment with any Queensland employer registered in Australia. The employment must have the validity of a further 12 months.
  • Must commit to staying in Queensland for a minimum of 2 years.

The onshore stream issues nominations to candidates under the following visa categories:

  • Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190)
  • Skilled Regional visa (Subclass 489)

3. Queensland Postgraduate – Masters or PhD (subclass 190)

Queensland invites high skilled international postgraduates for the target occupations which are difficult to fill from the local labour market.

This stream issues nominations to candidates under the Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190) category.
