[SkillSelect Australia] October Invitation Number is Huge …

Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia has officially published the results of October invitation round. The draw was held on 11th October 2019 and 1500 candidates received an invitation in the round.

Unlike the previous round, all the invitations were sent to Skill Independent visa (Subclass 189) candidates. No invitations were issued for Skilled Regional visa (subclass 489), due to the introduction of the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) visa on 16 November 2019.

The minimum score reduced from 85 (in the sep round) to 80. The high ranking candidates are invited to apply and applicants with equal points scores, the time at which they reached their points score for that subclass (referred to as the date of effect) determined their order of invitation. It means expressions of Interest with earlier dates of effect were prioritized.

In July, DHA has sent 1100 invitations but after that, the numbers dwindled to hundred in each category. But we are pleased to see the October number that exceeded July. Moreover, the cut-off points for most occupations were the lowest in October. Here is a list of popular occupations which cut-offs were reduced by few points!

1. Accountants

2. Electronics Engineer

3. Industrial, Mechanical and Production Engineers

4. ICT Business and System Analysts

5. Software and Applications Programmers

6. Computer Network Professionals

If DHA continues to invite these many applicants, we may see more applications being selected in the future rounds. One of the reasons why DHA may invite more applicants because to clear the backlogs, as the year is coming to an end.

According to a report by ISCAH news, there is a massive backlog of undecided visa applications under multiple categories with over 200,000 people currently on bridging visas. And with the beginning of the new year, the new applications will be flooded in the pool. To manage the pool, they have to clear the backlog of the last quarter of 2019.
